I am so excited to expand to having a dedicated website space that will support longer form blogging! I absolutely love insta and the fb group we are growing and seeing all the creations there, but I have big hopes and dreams for this community in the future and wanted to start a blog to share even more with you!

If you're completely new to Embroidery Book Club, welcome! I'm Rachel and I am a voracious reader who was absolutely obsessed with the idea of embroidering motifs (a fancy name for patches!) onto a sweatshirt to create a wearable reading log. I first saw the idea on Instagram while scrolling through reels, I saw Lauren from Laurensbookdiary come across my feed and jumped in with both feet. I cross stitched with my mom growing up and I have done some hand embroidered felt projects and this idea just felt like home to me. I approached Lauren in January of 2026 with the idea of creating an official Embroidery Book Club group and she told me she was in full support of me launching and running a dedicated group/space for it, and I absolutely LOVE the community we've grown since then.

I decided when I created the facebook group that I wanted to make a searchable database where people could submit their completed motifs for others to appreciate and also draw inspiration from. One of the wonderful women in the group helped me set up a form that automatically feeds into a google document that is fully searchable; at the time I am writing this blog post in March of 2026, the patch database has 215 book club member patches represented in under 2 months of the database being operational and I am just blown away!

I was also noticing a ton of people commenting on posts saying they wanted to start doing this but just couldn't quite get up the nerve to get started, so I decided to launch the Embroidery Book Club instagram page to share the motifs I was sewing on my sweatshirt in a step by step fashion. I started a new sweatshirt and have asked for follower input along the way; shared a tutorial for adding words to the collar and have been sharing patches as I add them along with tutorial videos for stitches and basic embroidery things. I have absolutely LOVED connecting with all the community members in my DMs and in the comments on my posts. Y'all are so creative and fun and kind and it's just been the best 2 spaces to be for me... and I know that I will feel the same way about the web space as we grow into it!

I have lots of ideas for things I would love to bring to this space, but as always I'd love to hear from you! What else would you like to see from Embroidery Book Club?
